I’d heard of Steve Winwood before, but I gained a greater appreciation of his talent and past musical legacy when this song became popular and solidified his solo career. His past work in Traffic in the early 70’s especially impressed me: John Barleycorn Must Die & The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys are incredible, timeless albums. And his work with Spencer Davis Group & Blind Faith was nothing to sneeze at either. Even though Winwood’s popularity waned in the late 80’s, he’s been actively recording and performing over the years. His last studio album was released in 2008, and a live album with Eric Clapton came out in 2009. He just recently completed a tour with Santana.
