Whatever Happened To… The Chi-Lites?

Oh Girl – The Chi-Lites (1972)
Founded in 1959, this American vocal group found most their chart success in early 70’s before going through repeated line-up changes. In 1980, the four principal members reunited but only lasted a couple years before members started departing again. Bass vocalist Creadal Jones left in 1982 and died in 1994. Eugene Record, long-time lead vocalist (and writer of this song), left the group in 1988 and began a career in gospel music. He died of cancer in 2005.  Second tenor Robert Lester remained with the group until he died from cancer in 2010. Marshall Thompson is the only remaining founding member, but new members have allowed the Chi-Lites to continue to record and perform. They released their most recent studio album in 2006. They’ve been inducted into the Vocal Group and Rhythm & Blues Halls of Fame.
