Unbelievable – EMF (1991)
This British band came out of nowhere to land this hit from their debut album. And then quietly went away, at least in the US. In their native UK, they maintained more of a presence until disbanding in 1995. Members went on to form or work with various bands. EMF reunited in 2001 and released a greatest hits compilation. They were ready to write and record new material when bassist Zac Foley died of a drug overdose in early 2002, effectively ending their reunion. They reunited again in 2007 to perform occasionally at festivals and special events before calling it quits again in 2009. Guitarist Ian Dench has since maintained the highest profile: He’s won an Ivor Novello Award and has been nominated twice for Grammy Awards, for his songwriting and production efforts.
