Whatever Happened To… The Four Tops?

When she was my Girl – The Four Tops (1981)
Best known for their Motown hits during the 60’s, this American vocal group made a comeback in the 80’s, resulting in this, their final Top 20 hit in both the US and UK. They continued recording through the 80’s, releasing their last studio album in 1988 (and a holiday album in 1995). Tenor Lawrence Payton died in 1997, resulting in the group’s first line-up change in 44 years. Bass Renaldo “Obie” Benson died in 2005, and front-man/baritone Levi Stubbs died in 2008. First tenor Abdul “Duke” Fakir is the only remaining original member, who continues to tour and perform with three new Tops, drawing upon their sizable catalog of songs.
