Here Comes Your Man – Pixies (1989)
This American band achieved moderate commercial success in the US. In contrast, they placed three albums in the UK Top 10 before calling it quits in 1993. Front-man Black Francis changed his stage name to Frank Black and launched a prolific solo career. He added a backing band, the Catholics, to his act in 1998. Bassist Kim Deal, who’d previously formed the Breeders as a side-project in 1990, returned to work with them. Guitarist Joey Santiago went on to collaborate with various musicians, including his wife and some of his former band-mates. And drummer David Lovering became a magician, while still picking up some percussion gigs on the side. Pixies reunited in 2004 to great fanfare (and overwhelming concert receipts). They’ve since been regulars at music festivals around the world, but have yet to release a new studio album since their reunion.
