Whatever Happened To… Van McCoy?

The Hustle – Van McCoy & the Soul City Symphony (1975)
This American producer, songwriter, conductor, arranger, and musician had built a solid reputation working behind the scenes with various vocal groups during the 60’s, most notably The Shirelles and Gladys Knight & the Pips. When this unexpected hit took off, it redefined his career and made him a darling of the disco scene. He became even more prolific in the late 70’s but wasn’t able to score another hit. McCoy died from a heart attack in 1979; he was 39 years old.
